Nevada Magazine Following are the winners of the "Best of Nevada 2003" readers' poll.
Despite strong efforts by fans of singer Clint Holmes and singer-impressionist Danny Gans, Wayne Newton retained his title as best entertainer in Southern Nevada. Newton, who appears at the Stardust, remains Mr. Las Vegas for a majority of readers. Meanwhile, in Northern Nevada there was a new top entertainer, as singer-impressionist Gordie Brown, who performs at Harrah's Reno, outpointed two-time winner Danny Marona, who often appears at the Atlantis in Reno.
Rita Rudner is a very funny woman. The headliner at New York-New York for the past year, Rudner was favored as the Southland's best comedian by a large margin. In Northern Nevada, impressionist Gordie Brown, playing at Harrah's Reno, edged two-time winner Danny Marona as top funnyman.

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR: GORDIE BROWN
Harrah's Reno decided to take the plunge and change its two-revue format, going instead for an early show with a single personality and a late show with topless dancers. It was a risk, but with extremely wise promotion and an even wiser selection of talent, it's paid off -- Gordie Brown has just signed a contract for six more months in the Headliner Room. Even though his stated goal is to make it big in Las Vegas, Brown has clearly made it big in Reno, no small feat. Harrah's helped a lot, of course, with an all-out advertising campaign that made it look like everybody should know who this guy is. That brought the people into the room, but Brown clearly brought them back, with an hour of on-the-spot impressions and an eager, engaging and dynamic personality.
